Found a Stray? Here's What to Do
A few simple steps help keep both you and the animal safe, and give it the best chance of getting home.
Approach carefully
Move slowly and stay calm. Don't chase or corner an unfamiliar animal — a scared animal can act unpredictably, even if it's normally friendly.
Check for ID
Look for a collar or tag. If the animal is friendly and safe to handle, a local vet or animal control office can scan for a microchip.
Keep it safe from heat
Yuma's heat is dangerous for animals. If you can safely contain the animal, give it shade, water, and never leave it in a parked car.
Report it
Call City of Yuma Police — Animal Control at (928) 373-4795 (within city limits) or Yuma County Sheriff's Office — Animal Control at (928) 783-4427 (unincorporated areas) so it can be matched with a lost-pet report.
Spread the word
Post a photo and description to local Yuma lost & found pet groups on social media to help the animal find its way home faster.

Y.A.P.A.R. is dedicated to helping protect animals through advocacy, public education, community support, and coordination with appropriate agencies and authorities. Our goal is to make it easier for people to take action when animals need help.
